Fuels Reduction Burn
October 29th & 30th, 2016 Timber Mesa Fire & Medical Dist. (TMFMD) will be conducting a fuels reduction burn on the property located at 1362 W. Rim Rd. Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ. The property is approximately 2 acres in size and the fuels to be burned have been piled in several piles that can be safely burned over the course of the 2 days. This will be a monitored burn by TMFMD crews. This property is located directly south of Hart Lake Road and Richardson Lane on the Rim Road and borders the White Mountain Apache Reservation. (Approximate GPS coordinates -109 58’ 07.61” , 34 06’ 37.81” ) Smoke will most likely be visible in the local area but is projected to only last for the two days scheduled for burning with minimal impact to local area residents. Prescribed burning provides many benefits and is essential to maintaining healthy forest ecosystems. It provides habitat diversity, recycles plant nutrients into the soil and encourages new growth for a variety of plants used by wildlife and livestock. Prescribed burning of forest ground fuels also reduces the threat of large scale wildfire impacts to private lands. Objectives of this project are to clear this property of the fuels from an earlier uncompleted fuels reduction project.
Crews will be on scene from ignition until there is no longer a threat of escape from the project boundaries.
