Whiteriver, Arizona – Six fires started along Highway 60 on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at approximately 2:17 pm. Five of those fires were contained and were under half an acre each. The largest fire is the Flying V Fire and is approximately 722 acres. The human-caused fire is burning in Pinyon Juniper and grassland.

The Flying V Fire is a reminder of how important it is to maintain your vehicle and trailer. Its also a reminder of how dry the forest is and how any little spark can start a major wildfire.
US 60 is closed in both directions north of Globe (milepost 256-311). There is no estimated time to reopen the highway.
