San Juan Fire

Official acres burned, 3,952 with no containment. Fire is burning in mixed conifer in the higher elevations with pinyon and juniper and grass in the lower elevations. Fuels are extremely dry and are available to burn. With less winds to push the fire, fire behavior is expected to be moderate. The fire has been determined to be human caused and is under investigation.

Resources being used to fight fire: 5 helicopters, 7 hotshot crews, 6 hand, 502 crews, 24 engines, 3 dozers, 4 water tankers.

The San Jaun Fire transitioned from a local Type III organization to the Type II Southwest Area Incident Management Team 4 led by Incident Commander, Matt Reidy last night at 9:00PM. The fire is being managed in a full suppression. Crews are using existing fuel treatment areas and roads as containment lines. Mandatory evacuations remain in effect for the Red Cabin Ranch, Whiting Homestead, Carlock Ranch south of Bucklew Springs and Forest Service Road 61 & 2. Pre-evacuation notices are still in place for Greens Peak Hideaway and Hidden Meadows.

Road closures and Road Blocks have been placed in the following areas:

Forest Service Road 271B, County Road 3140 at Carlock Ranch, Forest Service Road 267 at  Forest Service Road 224, Forest Service Road 117 and Forest Service Road 96, County Road 3140 at County Road 3261.

A public meeting has been scheduled for tonight at 6:00PM at the Vernon Fire Station #1. There will officials from the Incident Command, Fort Apache Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest will be present to discuss the status of the fire and planned containment efforts.
