  1. Just an FYI…the White Mtn Independent is reporting that the Quemado fire is…
    “Posted: Thursday, June 16, 2016 5:44 pm | Updated: 6:13 pm, Thu Jun 16, 2016.
UPDATE 6/16/16 6:13 PM: Vernon Fire Chief Dave Niehuis, acting public information officer for the Quemado Fire, said it has now grown to between 400-500 acres.”
Could you please find an update. Thanks!

      • I just spoke with Vernon FD…JUST FYI…QUEMADO FIRE is 400-500 acres…THANKS…HOWEVER…just want to help, not criticize, as you folks are doing an amazing job!!!!!!!!!!
6/16/16 5:50 PM – 311INFO.NET REPORTS “The Quemado Fire is at 50 acres on state land between Vernon and Springerville on Hwy 60 at MP 374. Crews are on scene and working on this new incident.”

        • I was trying to find out if Hwy 60 was closed in that area. Checked ADOT, and Mapquest satellite. Couldn’t find it for the life of me! Hwy 60 isn’t closed in that area

          • Yes it is! Highway 60 is still closed!! And will remain so in the fire zone.

          • The 60 by Vernon and the Quemado Fire remains open

The 60 between Carrizo and Show Low remains closed due to the Cedar fire.

  2. What is the real count on the acres for this fire? This site says 20 acres but the incident page says 200 with an earlier time stamp. I have a place between the two fires so I’m worried about them both merging if the winds shift.

  3. FYI: Round Valley emer. contact said that for their area, Springerville Rodeo grounds will take horses, and the Round Valley “Kennel” (which wasn’t listed in phone book, may be Vet Clinic) will take small pets, but people need to call to let them know what small pets they’re bringing.
Otherwise, aside from private volunteers agreeing to take horses and other livestock in the Springerville, Shumway, and Snowflake areas, Holbrook Fairgrounds will take large livestock and smaller pets.
But with the Level 1 personnel coming in, the prediction is unlikely for evacuation. Thanks to all!!

  4. FYI, WMI is reporting that the Quemado fire is ‘stopped’:

UPDATE 6/16/16 8 PM: Dave Niehuis, Vernon fire chief and PIO for the Quemado Fire, said firefighters from all Apache County departments, except Vernon and Concho, stopped the Quemado Fire at 700 acres.
    “It is down,” he said.
An air attack helped firefighters bring the fire to approximately 80 percent containment before completely putting it out.

    • Quemado fire is at 80% containment. It is considered in monitory status, which means they are keeping an eye on it in case the wind picks up and it starts back up. Also, Fire Chief Frank Adams is and was in charge off this fire.
