/Winter Storm Warning for Northeast Arizona /

A cold winter storm will enter western Arizona this evening and move slowly eastward overnight. A winter storm warning is in effect for the Mogollon Rim and White Mountain Areas and a winter weather advisory covers the rest of northern Arizona.

Expect winter driving conditions with snow levels falling to 2500-3500 feet!

Wednesday the winter storm will continue to bring heavy snowfall and poor visibilities across northern Arizona through Wednesday morning. Snowfall intensity should decrease for areas west of a line from Page to Payson during the afternoon. Areas east of this line should see decreasing snowfall intesity by early evening. Snow levels will be as low as 2000 feet.

Storm total snow accumulations through Wednesday night:

White Mountains 12 – 18 inches
Mogollon Rim (south of Flagstaff) 10 – 15 inches
Mogollon Rim (North of Payson) 15 – 20

Thursday through Sunday weak disturbances will move through the region with scattered snow showers expected Thursday through Friday afternoon and again Saturday night and Sunday. Additional snow accumulations should be light.

Weather alert for February 20th

On Wednesday a cold winter storm will bring widespread significant snowfall across northern Arizona with much colder temperatures and hazardous winter driving conditions. Accumulating snow will begin in Coconino, northern Gila and Yavapai counties after midnight Wednesday morning. Snowfall will then spread eastward into Navajo and Apache counties by sunrise. Snow levels will range from 2500 to 2500 feet elevation.

Expect hazardous winter driving conditions with accumulating snow and blowing snow with snow packed roads and periods of near zero visibilities.

Greater than 6000 = 6 – 12 inches
5000-6000 feet = 3 – 6 inches
3000-5000 = 1 – 3 inches

Upcoming weather alert for the week of February 18-22, 2013

A large and cold storm system will begin to impact Arizona on Tuesday with increasing southwest winds. This storm will then spread snow and rain from west to east across the state beginning Tuesday night. Precipitation is expected to linger into Thursday. Snow Levels could drop to below 3000 feet Wednesday into Thursday. Winter driving conditions are likely with this storm system, use caution if travel is necessary.
