Official Information vs. Non-Official

There are many people posting information  of their Facebook pages regarding the Cedar  fire. If the information is not coming from the 311 call center, the  311info website, Apache County Emergency Management Facebook, 311info Facebook, Navajo County Facebook, or the Facebook from the Type I incident management team which is www.facebook.com/cedarfireinfo.

Any other source has not been verified and may not be correct. Please, be careful with your posts, and telling nervous citizens untrue information. We know people are trying to be helpful, and some just want to be the one with fast information, that still does not mean it is correct information.

The 311 call center and the 311info website does not declare we are the quickest source of information, we state we verify all information from the official source before we post. This does take time. We now have a PIO from the Type I team who is in contact with us, and our information is their information that they are putting out.

This is a stressful time for Navajo County residents. Please let’s keep the rumors at bay by letting the officials push out the information to the public.

  1. PLEASE give us an update! The last one didn’t have a time stamp and as far as I can tell it is the only one today. No wonder ther are rumors.

  2. I think this website is doing everything humanly possible to get relevant info out to the people as soon as they can. I don’t fault anyone within the ‘official’ web and social elements, regarding this fire. My stress is that we seem to be getting conflicting statements, rather than fact. The press conferences should be to the point and informational and not a vehicle for pats on the back. All of that can come later, when this situation is really under control. We are all grateful for the amazing work being done by these brave people, but what we need to know is the exact state of the fire and what will be happening next. The press-conference yesterday was upbeat and gave people a lot of hope. Today’s conference seemed less assured. At least that is how I took it. It seemed like some people would say one thing and then someone else would come to the microphone and say something different. In a time of fear and stress, the last thing we need are officials that are not on the same page with one another. I want facts stated with authority and I want to know what is going on without fluff, pats on the back and misleading information. But, this website and those volunteers that work it, you DO deserve a pat on the back for keeping us informed to the best of your ability. Thank you.

    • I agree with you 100% I noticed the same thing with the news conference! When my husband logged on to watch the live coverage I told him…”The first thing you will hear is a bunch of people getting up to praise each other and give everybody a “Good Job” and pat on the back” and he just rolled his eyes at me. THEN he started laughing when that’s exactly what happened. We are very grateful for all of the efforts of the people with boots on the ground, but please just give the facts….the time for praise and back thumping should come AFTER this thing has been put to bed and the danger has passed.

  3. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
We know folks mean well, but when information that is here say or not official gets out there it is not only misleading, but can also be dangerous. Appreciate you giving folks the OFFICIAL Facebook Pages to check.

  4. Please post here what is covered in news conferences. Tucson news isn’t covering the information. Thank you

    • As of now, it is reported that the Cedar Creek Fire has covered approximately 10,500 acres with no containment. However, officials have said fire crews have been able to hold their lines and the fire is still estimated to be about 8 miles from Pinetop. We will update as soon as more information has been received. Another great source of up-to-date information regarding the Cedar Creek Fire can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/cedarfireinfo.

  5. Do you think by the first of the week that the air will be safe enough for a person on oxygen to be in the area ?

  6. Thank you SO much for the updates and also to all those working on the fire.

Here is a little observation though…Jim Paxton on the last fire was the SOLE spokesman and that was so helpful. This go around it seems like we have to have 5-6 folks from every agency give us an update so no one feels left out and everyone gets a pat on the back and I’m not sure why? Is it the pc age we live in? I think we would all just much rather hear the straight scoop, good or bad. (I’m speaking to the tv and radio updates), from a single spokes person then move on.

Other then that, again, thx for the updates and keeping us in the loop!

  7. I think one of the reasons there is so much dis information floating around is because there is so much conflicting information on the websites people are being directed to…even by this site. The facebook page says 0% containment while the inci site says 30%….which one is true? This site says the fire is at over 10 thousand acres but the inci page says under 10k….which one is right? Both sites are official news sites. Even the press conference this afternoon had conflicting information….one person says do not come up the mountain (to help keep lookey lous away, to help prevent other idiots from starting a fire by leaving their fires burning, to keep things manageable…it makes sense to say stay away if you can) while two other people said they encouraged people returning to the mountain this weekend. If you want people to have the correct information , then someone needs to decide who talks and keep the story the same from everyone else that talks.
