Official Cedar Fire update

****6/17/16 at 6:00pm***

Over the last few hours, fire activity increased on the SE side of the fire, producing additional smoke in the area. Although fire behavior was active in this portion of the main fire, it did not cross any of the established control lines on the eastern side. Crews continue to strengthen and extend the eastern control lines toward the south.

Pre-evacuation orders remain in effect at this time. Next official update at 8:30 am unless conditions change.

  1. Does anyone have a current “burned area” map so we can see what has burned and where it’s currently heading? All I keep seeing is the Google earth map with a little flame icon where it originated.

      • I don’t have Facebook, also don’t want to be part of FB. However, as the Pre-Evac notice urges people to be ready to evacuate, my ongoing question is WHERE?? I have not seen any “official” information about what is open for livestock and small animals except Navajo County Fairground in Holbrook. And there is no shelter for people near there at all. With approximately 20000 people in this area (according to newscasts) that may be evacuated, a large number of the population have pets, and livestock. Personally, without more info, I may be packed up, but at odds with where to take horses and dogs.

        • AZ Humane is at Snowflake High School and is taking domesticated animals with or without crates. Livestock will be housed at the fairgrounds in Holbrook. The Snowflake Junior High is open for people.

          • thanks. I have also heard from various sources that Taylor Rodeo grounds can take horses, but don’t know if that is official report. At any rate, it would certainly keep animals and people closer together. Feeding the animals twice a day is easier if it’s not such long drive.

      • Thanks but not showing the legend and map in detail. . If the fire is at the trigger point I think it’s very important that all of us get updated at least on an hourly notice if it is that close

    • I found a map on inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4788 they have a map on that. It took this site days to add the Ceder Fire, but it is finally there! I don’t have a Facebook, so this is handy for those that don’t.

  2. as far as evacuation is concerned, after many phone calls to Round Valley, apparently the Round Valley Police Dept has coordination for small animal shelter, basically through Animal control. Two days later we still have not been able to coordinate small animal and horse shelters near human shelters.

  3. Please make sure you have the right time for briefings, I turn on the radio at 8:25 to be ready and then waited and just got music. It seems it was already over. Your only update for this morning was for 8:30. Please give us the correct time.
