Mescal and Telegraph Fires Smoke Forecast 6/6/2021

The Mescale Fire, burning southeast of Globe, is estimated at over 38,000 acres.

The Telegraph Fire south/southeast of Superior is estimated at 34,000acres.

Once again this morning, moderate to heavy smoke impacts are noted in portions of Globe-Miami and for areas in/around San Carlos. Gusty west-southwest winds today, especially this afternoon, will result in smoke remaining fairly close to the ground as it disperses toward the east-northeast. Due to this, moderate smoke impacts are likely in Globe-Miami and San Carlos throughout the day. Smoke may also begin to move into the Whiteriver area, with light smoke also possible in Alpine and Eager later this afternoon.

With the fires remaining active overnight, smoke is forecast to continue moving into Superior, Miami-Globe, and areas in/around San Carlos, with moderate to heavy smoke impacts possible tonight into tomorrow morning. If you are in an area with heavy impacts, the suggested actions to take are (if possible): close windows and use fans or alternative cooling devices, turn off swamp coolers, use filtered HVAC systems, and avoid outdoor activities.Tomorrow, we are expecting a similar pattern as today, with smoke moving toward the east-northeast.
