Cedar Fire update

Official fire update ****6/19/16 at 11:16 am****

Fire is contained at 40%. Fire was most active on the South side of the fire during the night. Winds changed direction overnight pushing more smoke into the Highway 73 corridor as well as Whiteriver. Smoke may be more visible today and develop into columns that can be seen some distance from the fire. Weather is expected to cool after today with increased chance of storms and humidity next week.  We remain under pre-evacuation notice at this time.

  1. Is 73 highway going to stay open? Some are saying it’s closed now due to the change of the fire due to the wind….and that the town of Cedar Creek is on pre-evacuation. Please give more updates on this highway and town.
    Thank you…

    • We have not heard that 73 highway is closed. The only pre-evacuations are for Show Low, Pinetop lakeside, Hondah, McNary.

        • I fully understand you want to be home. We want you to be safe as well. Right now there is a lot of smoke in the area, along with fire crews and their equipment are in the area working hard. It is safer for them, and the citizens if all remain evacuated.

    • I checked with Navopache Electric and I was advised that is not happening yet. They are on stand-by just in case.
