Burnt Corral Pile Burning on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation

The Bureau of Indian Affairs Fort Apache Agency Fire Management in coordination with the White Mountain Apache Tribe will conduct prescribed burn operations within the Black River Timber Management Unit (22 miles southeast of Whiteriver) from September 3 to September 6, 2019 contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Approximately 456 acres are targeted to be pile burned within this burn unit. The piles are from a thinning project within the Burnt Corral area to remove and restore range conditions.

Smoke from the burn may be visible during ignition operations and will gradually diminish after ignitions are completed. All Prescribed Fire activity will be carefully monitored and will comply with smoke management guidelines to reduce the impact of smoke on local residents.
