Telegraph and Mescal Fire Smoke Forecast 6/7/2021

The Telegraph Fire is around 57,000 acres (~16,000 acres of growth yesterday), and the Mescal Fire is approximately 52,800 acres (~14,000-acre increase yesterday).

With both fires staying active overnight, smoke is seen on satellite this morning, moving toward the northeast over Gila, Navajo, and Apache Counties. Moderate to heavy smoke is also in Miami-Globe, San Carlos, and Superior this morning. Expect the heaviest impacts to lift this morning (between 9 am and 10 am).

With continued southwesterly winds today and tomorrow, smoke is expected to rise and disperse toward the northeast. Moderate impacts are likely in Globe-Miami and San Carlos throughout the day, given their proximity to the fire. Smoke is also forecast to move over/through Whiteriver and Cibecue, with moderate impacts possible, especially this afternoon when fire behavior may once again increase. Light smoke impacts are forecast in Alpine, Eagar, Show Low, and Snowflake as smoke disperses toward the northeast.

If you are in an area with heavy impacts, the suggested actions to take are (if possible): close windows and use fans or alternative cooling devices, turn off swamp coolers, use filtered HVAC systems, and avoid outdoor activities.
