UPDATE: ALL previously mentioned residents have been moved OFF SET status to READY status. FS road 283 will continue to be closed through the night.

Apache County Sheriffs office has advised that the following residential areas are on ‘SET’ status for the Marshall Fire in the Vernon area: Brusally and the area inside the polygon on the map. PLEASE know there are Sheriff’s Office Volunteers and Deputies in the area notifying the residents. Again, please avoid the area if possible as Emergency vehicles are coming in and out.

Vernon residents should be aware that once area winds start dying down after sunset, smoke from the Marshall Fire will settle into the lower lying areas in and around Vernon. Residents should be prepared by closing vents or putting air conditioners on recirculating and limit going outdoors. This is likely to continue for the next several days as fire crews are ‘mopping up’.

Due to the forest fire on Marshall Mountain CR 3144 is closed from CR 3148 to the Navajo County line. Crews are currently on scene working to contain the fire. Residences in the area of FR 283 and CR 3144 have been notified and given pre-evacuation precautions.
