Smoke from the San Juan Fire

6/29/14 @5:28PM

Residents in Vernon and in the surrounding areas will be experiencing heavy smoke within the hour. This will be due to an aerial ignitions within the burnout operations which will clean up fuels along the fire line. It may be possible that you will see smoke plumes much like the ones at the beginning of the fire. This is all to further the cause to get some containment on the fire.

San Juan Fire Update

6/29/14 Noon

Here is what is happening today with the San Juan Fire. The fire acreage has not increased since yesterday. Firefighters are burning along the western perimeter of the San Juan Fire, south of Vernon in the areas of Sepulveda Creek and Pine Springs. Surrounding areas will experience heavy smoke today given the indirect fire fighting activities. Smoke plumes will be visible due to this burnout. All burnout activities are being conducted within the fire perimeter.
We are confident with the work the fire crews are doing. The EOC (emergency operations center) will be releasing the American Red Cross today at noon. They will travel home to Flagstaff where they will remain on call for us.2/14 @ 11:43 AM
