Cedar Creek fire update

Per Navajo County PIO:

“Current acreage 12,000 with 30% containment.  Crews are working on the dozer lines, and prep work is being done on contingency lines.”

All pre evacuation notices remain in effect for Showlow, Pinetop, Lakeside, Hondah and McNary.  The primary shelter in Snowflake is  located at the Snowflake High School at 190 S. 2nd W.  The animal shelter for large animals in Navajo County is located at 404 E. Hopi Dr. in Holbrook.  The small animals are sheltered at the Snowflake High School and is operated by the Humane Society.  The secondary shelter is located at Round Valley Middle School 126 W. 2nd street in Eagar.  The large animal shelter is located at the Apache County rodeo grounds off Hwy 180 and 260.  The small animal shelter is located at the Round Valley kennel.

*****6/18/2016 at 8:40 am***** Fire lines continued to hold during the night and backburning was successful . Fire crews are continuing to solidify the E and SE sections of the fire. Winds are expected to be 10-15 mph and temperatures will be higher today. The fire is 30% contained and we remain under pre-evacuation orders only at this time. Next update at 12:30pm

Over the last few hours, fire activity increased on the SE side of the fire, producing additional smoke in the area. Although fire behavior was active in this portion of the main fire, it did not cross any of the established control lines on the eastern side. Crews continue to strengthen and extend the eastern control lines toward the south.

Pre-evacuation orders remain in effect at this time. Next official update at 8:30 am unless conditions change.
