Red Flag Warning Today May 31st

5.31.18 – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today across Northern Arizona due to low relative humidity (5%) and sustained high winds. Wind speeds will be 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. The Red Flag Warning means that any fires that start have the potential to spread rapidly!

As a reminder fire restrictions are in effect and should be adhered to with the utmost vigilance! If anyone is caught burning they will be cited and potentially arrested!

Remember “One Less Spark = One Less Wildfire!”.

Wildfire start in Sycamore Canyon Wilderness

SEDONA, Ariz., May 28, 2018, For Immediate Release – Coconino National Forest firefighters are responding to a 40-acre wildfire approximately 9 miles northwest of Sedona growing in Sycamore Canyon Wilderness.

The human-caused Sycamore Fire was reported at about 10:20 a.m. today near Taylor Cabin Trail and is producing smoke that will be noticeable to those in the immediate area, burning primarily in pinyon juniper in the wilderness area.

Firefighting resources include four helicopters, five crews, and three engines—totaling approximately 100 personnel.

No structures are immediately threatened at this time and the wildfire is moving in the northeast direction. More information will be provided about this wildfire as it becomes available.

Wildcat Fire – Forest Lakes

5/27/18 – Forest Lakes Fire Department with USFS Apache-Sitgreaves personnel are working to contain a fire that started this morning. The fire is 1 mile north of Highway 260 and reported at 3 acres. There are several resources working on this fire and they have a line around the fire. Crews ask that the area be avoided for everyone’s safety. (photos from Forest Lakes FD Facebook)
