Winds throughout Northern Arizona will strengthen tonight and continue into tomorrow. Expect strong southwest winds to develop on Wednesday and Thursday as a low pressure trough moves through the Great Basin. A Wind Advisory is in effect Wednesday from the Yavapai County Mountains, Mogollon Rim and White Mountains northward to the Utah Border. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 MPH are expected with gusts up to 45 MPH. Similar winds are expected again on Thursday with gusts up to 45 to 55 MPH.

Deep moisture is forecast to move northward into the region through the weekend and into early next week. Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage with a risk of localized heavy rain and flash flooding especially Sunday through Tuesday.

Please be advised that I 40 is closed at milepost 303 east bound and west bound which is about 7 miles west of the Petrified Forest. The Department of Public Safety is on scene as well as the Arizona Department of Transportation. Please use caution if you are in or going to this area.
