Jack Fire Evening Update

CLOSURE UPDATE: State Route 87 is now open.

Happy Jack, Ariz. – The Jack Fire, located thirteen miles northeast of Happy Jack on the Coconino National Forest, is currently 800 acres in size. The fire, burning towards the northeast on both sides of the canyon, is burning in grass and pinyon-juniper near State Route 87.

This afternoon, firefighters put in dozer line around the right flank of the fire; the line is holding with the aid of air resources. Retardant and bucket work was used to hold the left flank with ground crews working to establish an indirect line. Firefighters will work into the night.

Tomorrow, the National Weather Service is forecasting a high near 72 degrees, southwest winds around 14 mph increasing to 24 mph in the morning, gusts could get as high as 37 mph.

No structures are threatened. The rock climbing area in Jack’s Canyon had been evacuated and is closed at this time. Information will be updated at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3897/ .

Jack Fire South of Winslow – UPDATE

6/14/14 3:00 –  The Jack fire as reportedly reached 400acres as of the latest update. There are approximately 90 firefighters from 2 hotshot crews, 3 air tankers (1 very large air tanker)2 helitankers and 1 type 1 helicopter. Additionally 1 air attack,  1 lead plane and more resources have been ordered. The cause is under investigation.

6/14/14 2:15 – A fire has been report 28 miles south of Winslow that is 1 -2 acres. There aren’t 2 airtankers, 1helicopter and 1lead on the fire now according to Southwest Coordination Center. Updates will be posted as they come in.
