VERNON, AZ – The San Juan Fire remains 6,975 acres and containment has reached 70%. Firefighters will continue mop up of uncontained fire line located primarily on the west side of the fire and work towards rehabilitation of fire suppression related activities. Some resources have been released to return to their home units or to respond to other fires. Incident Commander Matt Reidy said, “I am proud of the valuable work firefighters from state, federal and local units have provided.”
Approximately 100 area residents attended a final public meeting held at the Vernon Fire District Wednesday. The meeting provided an update on the status of the fire and planned rehabilitation efforts of the surrounding areas.
A partial closure of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests remains in place. Violators of the closure will be cited. For more information see http://tinyurl.com/mv4pvna. San Juan Fire Evacuations to be Lifted on 7/3/14 at 8:00 am with 70% Containment

VERNON, AZ – “We are pleased to announce the evacuation order for the communities of Red Cabin Ranch, Whiting Homestead and Carlock Ranch will be lifted at 8:00 a.m. Thursday. This includes the pre-evacuation notices for Greens Peak Hideaway and Hidden Meadows,” said Incident Commander Matt Reidy. “The residents have been very understanding and their cooperation was appreciated during this trying time period. We understand residents have been away from their homes and are very anxious to return.” Special entry permits will be issued at existing roadblocks to residents and their invited guests only. The evacuated area will remain closed to the general public until further notice.
Access to previously evacuated areas will be limited. To access Red Cabin Ranch or Whiting Homestead, use County Road 3123 south from US Highway 60 to County Road 1327. Carlock Ranch can be accessed on County Road 3140 south from US Highway 60. Greens Peak Hideaway and Hidden Meadows are accessible from State Highway 260 north on Forest Road 118. To access Neagle Ranch, take Country Road 3140 north from McNary.
