Northeastern Arizona Weekend Weather Update

9/5/14 – Today and Saturday expect scattered thunderstorms most numerous over the higher terrain. Light winds with near normal temperatures. Sunday through Monday widespread showers and thunderstorms most numerous from Sunday evening through Monday. Expect 1 to 4 inches of rainfall accumulation through this period with the greatest accumulations likely along and south of the Mogollon Rim.

Primary impacts include Flash Flooding with the heavier rainfall accumulations, minor flooding expected over many vulnerable locations due to widespread rainfall and recent burn areas will face an enhanced threat of Flash Flooding. If you are in a vulnerable area prone to flooding consider taking preparedness measures early. Some suggestions include obtaining sandbags to divert water away from structures, checking flashlights and batteries, and consider securing any loose objects that may cause damage or blow away. Flash Flood Watch Remains In Effect Today

8/26/14 – A trough of low pressure combined with deep subtropical moisture is forecast to bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to northern Arizona today through late tonight. Heavy rain will be the greatest threat which could lead to areas of flooding. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the following areas: the Grand Canyon, Mogollon rim, and Whit eMountains also southward into Yavapai and Northern Gila Counties. The combination of strengthening winds and instability will bring the threat of strong thunderstorms that could potentially produce large hail and damaging winds.

A Flash Flood Watch means that developing conditions may lead to flash flooding within the watch area. People, especially those located along area creeks, rivers or other flash flood prone areas should continue to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

 

Flash Flood Watch in Effect!

8/25/14 – A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for southern and western Coconino County, far southern Apache and Navajo Couties and all of Yavapai and Gila Counties. This includes the cities of Page, Grand Canyon Village, Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott, Payson and Show Low.

Numerous rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late tonight through Tuesday. The storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall and flash flooding. A Flash Flood Watch means that developing conditions may lead to Flash Flooding within the watch area. People especially those located along area creeks, rivers or other Flash Flood prone areas should continue to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
