BROADCAST BURNING TO BEGIN ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2021Fort Apache Agency Fire Management in coordination with White Mountain Apache Tribal Forestry will complete slash pile burning efforts within the Bull Flat Burn Unit on Saturday, November 6, 2021 and will begin broadcast burning on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation on Monday, November 8, 2021.
The following are upcoming broadcast burning treatments planned for November and December 2021:
• Perry Creek Burn Unit– 2000 acres, located 15 miles southeast of Whiteriver, Treatment efforts will begin on Monday, November 8, 2021.
• Maverick Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 23 miles east of Whiteriver
• Odart North Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 16 miles southeast of Whiteriver
• Turkey Creek Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 10 miles southeast of Whiteriver.
• Lofer Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 16 miles east of Whiteriver.
• Corduroy Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 7 miles south of Show Low.
• Hondah Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 2 miles east of McNary, north of highway 260.
• Soldier Bute Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 10 miles east of McNary.
• Coyote West Burn Unit – 2000 acres, located 3 miles southwest of Hondah.
Conditions are evaluated each day to determine if ignition will take place. Precipitation, wind, temperature, fuel moisture and staffing all play a part in when and whether ignition occurs. Nearby residents should expect smoke in the vicinity. Drivers should pay extra attention while traveling through or adjacent to burn areas. Officials expect smoke to dissipate quickly during burn days, but some smoke could linger in valley bottoms and drainages for short durations.
