Successful Burnout Operations Conducted on San Juan Fire

VERNON, AZ – Successful burnout operations were conducted last night to remove fuel between constructed fire lines and the main body of fire. The San Juan Fire remains within planned containment lines. The west side of the fire is east of Forest Road (FR) 2, north of FR 6, and east of FR 2c. Smoke from last night’s operations may settle in low lying areas to the north and east of the fire and may impact travel on State Highway 60.
A public meeting will be held at the Vernon Fire Station at 6:00 p.m. on Monday night. Fire managers as well as representatives from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Bureau of Indian Affairs and the White Mountain Apache Tribe will be present to provide an update on the fire and to answer questions from the public.
Mandatory evacuations remain in place for the subdivisions of Red Cabin Ranch, Whiting Homestead, and Carlock Ranch. Pre-evacuation notices are still in effect for the areas of Greens Peak Hideaway and Hidden Meadows Ranch.
A closure has been put in place by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Road blocks are in place at Forest Service Road 271B, County Road 3140 at Carlock Ranch, Forest Road 267 at Forest Road 224, Forest Road 117 and Forest Road 96, and County Road 3140 at County Road 3261.
