Temperatures Well Below Normal for the Weekend!

12/6/2013 – Another cold front will cross Arizona this weekend. Southswest wind gusts to 40 MPH are expected Saturday afternoon and evening and will keep wind chill values in the teens and 20’s across the northland. Snow should develop across the Kaibab Plateau and Grand Canyon areas Saturday afternoon and a winter weather advisory is in effect.

Snowfall will spread eastward Saturday night with snow levels falling to valley floors in most locations by Sunday morning. Present indications are for 1 to 3 inches below 5000 feet, 3 to 6 inches above 5000 feet, and 4 to 6 inches between 5000 and 8000 feet and 6 to 10 inches above 8000 feet. Clearing conditions to move from west to east on Sunday.

Very cold high and low temperatures will continue through monday with high temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s across most of northern Arizona.

Preparedness tips for cold weather:

* make sure you have plenty of drinking water, non-parishable food items, can opener, batteries, medicines, pet supplies and warm clothes and blankets on hand

* make sure you have games, books, coloring items and things to keep busy with in case the power goes out

* make sure to winterize your vehicle with sand or kitty litter for traction, shovels, blankets, water and snacks

* don’t forget flashlights and extra batteries!
