Red Flag Warning for May 17

5/17/18 – The National Weather Service has forecast a Red Flag Warning for today for southern Coconino, southern Apache and southern Navajo Counties. Winds are expected to be 15-20 MPH with gusts up to 35 MPH and relative humidity between 5% to 12%.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or are imminent. A combination of strong winds and low relative humidities can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

  1. Would like to use my chainsaw to eliminate trees too close to each other that would spread fire in case of wildfire on my property or locally in Lakeside. Was told by authorities that I would receive a citation if I did. I guess that leaves a better chance of a wildfire. Doesn’t make sense! I’m very careful with anything that would start a fire or injure someone. Where can I get a use permit in Navajo County?

    • The use of chainsaws is not allowed during restrictions due to the sparks that cutting will cause. We encourage our citizens to be Firewise year round so that they are not in danger during fire season.
